New Zealand’s biennial Wings Over Wairarapa air show is now confirmed to take place from 26-28 February 2021 at its traditional Masterton’s Hood Aerodrome site.
However, the event has said that the uncertainty around international travel means it will focus on aircraft available within the country.
It comes after its sister festivals, Wings over Illawarra, was shifted from 2 May to 7 November 2020, and AVALON was moved from 23 February to 23 November 2021.
Recent Wings Over Wairarapa events have attracted up to 25,000 to the region and next year’s will also run a special STEM aviation and education program.
General manager Jenny Gasson said, “We are in an amazing position with the quality of the air display we can offer and the fact that Hood Aerodrome is home to the Vintage Aviator aircraft is something we feel very privileged to be able to highlight.
“This is an industry that is doing it tough at the moment but will bounce back in the future and will need to be planning ahead for people to begin aviation careers.”
Australian Aviation earlier reported how NSW’s biggest air show, Wings over Illawarra, was postponed until later this year following the Australian government’s decision to ban large events.
The program, which includes flying demonstrations of historic, military, modern and aerobatic aircraft, was due to take place at Shellharbour Airport on 2-3 May.
Next year’s AVALON, meanwhile, has special significance because it will celebrate the RAAF’s centenary.
The rebooted show will still mark the occasion, but will also have a new focus on how businesses can recover from COVID-19.
