Airservices helps Emirates reduce CO2 emissions

Emirates Airline was able to save over 6250 litres of fuel and reduce CO2 emissions by 16 tonnes when two Boeing 777 flights to and from Australia took part in the Indian Ocean Strategic Partnership to Reduce Emissions (INSPIRE) program over mid July.

The airline worked with air navigation service providers, including Airservices Australia, and airports in the region so that Emirates flights UAE425 (Perth to Dubai) and UAE434 (Dubai to Brisbane) experienced minimal ground delays, expedient taxi to takeoff, gradual climb and unrestricted descent paths, and could fly optimum routes based on existing meteorological and airspace conditions.

“These flights illustrate that Emirates’ long term strategy to address the environmental concerns of our customers, our partners and our industry has become a part of the everyday operating fabric of our organisation, not just something we recognise once a year,” Emirates divisional senior vice president flight operations, Captain Alan Stealey, said.
