Airservices announces 100th radio upgrade

written by australianaviation.com.au | December 1, 2009

Airservices Australia has completed its 100th upgraded transmitter as part of a major project to upgrade its VHF radio communication network across Australia.

The latest upgraded transmitter entered service during November at Table Mountain, Rockhampton, and is part of the $46 million VHF System Upgrade project, which is due for completion in mid 2010. The system upgrade will enhance reliability and allow remote monitoring and defect rectification by Airservices technical staff and also introduces additional system redundancy and back-up capability.

“Ultimately, all VHF services will be transitioned onto digital bearers as part of a separate multi-million dollar upgrade of Airservices own national telecommunications infrastructure,” said Airservices general manager technical and asset services Alastair Hodgson.
