Air NZ’s 787-9 to enter service on August 9

Air New Zealand’s Boeing 787-9 will take off on its first commercial flight at 0900 Auckland time on Saturday.

Flight NZ103 on Saturday, August 9, has been confirmed as the Dreamliner’s revenue service debut in Air NZ colours, according to flight schedules published by the Airline Route website.

The flight was due to land in Sydney at 1030 local time, with the aircraft due to spend two hours on the the ground in Sydney before turning around at 1230 as NZ104 back to Auckland, where it was scheduled to touch down at 1730 local time.

Air NZ has not published its 787-9 schedule beyond those initial two flights.

That service will come just two days after the 787-9 enters service, on August 7, with All Nippon Airways, when it operates flight NH241 from Tokyo Haneda to Fukuoka, the first of six flights scheduled for aircraft on its first day of operations.

Hi Greg, Air NZ has ruled out the 787-10 as not having the payload range performance for trans Pacific services.

Great to see Air New Zealand leading the way with their B787’s and using them on full paying flights. Qantas can only watch and wish they could be like Air NZ. Well Done to the Kiwi’s

Great to see our airline air new zealand looking at the future for aircraft I flew ZK-SUH when she was in her Lord of the Rings decals superb 744 she will be missed
