Air New Zealand introduces check-in kiosks at Melbourne

written by australianaviation.com.au | May 23, 2013

Air New Zealand passengers travelling on trans-Tasman and Pacific Island services from Melbourne Airport can now use new check-in kiosks.

Using machine-readable passports to call up passengers’ details, the kiosks issue a boarding pass and bag tags in around 90 seconds. Passengers travelling with check-in luggage then take it to the bag drop area where staff will check their ID and scan their bag tags to accept them for travel. Air New Zealand claims more than 80 per cent of customers have opted to use the 14 check-in kiosks since going live this week.

The airline already offers kiosk check-in for trans-Tasman flights at Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown and Sydney airports.

Air New Zealand staff will continue to assist passengers travelling to destinations other than New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. A check-in counter continues to be available exclusively for premium passengers.
