Flights to Bali have been suspended due to the ash cloud from the Mount Rinjani volcano.
Virgin Australia and Jetstar have cancelled scheduled services into and out of Bali on Wednesday following the latest assessment from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC).
Jetstar has cancelled three flights to Bali and three from the popular Indonesian tourist destination to Australia scheduled for Wednesday.
“While we regret the frustration these cancellations will cause, the safety of our customers and crew is always our first priority,” Jetstar said in a statement.
“We’ll continue to monitor the movement of the ash cloud from Mt Rinjani in Lombok, Indonesia with the latest information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre (VAAC) and will resume flying as soon as it is safe to do so.”
“Once we have resumed flights, we will look to schedule additional services to enable customers to travel to or from Bali.”
Meanwhile, Virgin has cancelled a total of eight services for Wednesday, with a decision on Thursday’s flights to be made after further information from the VACC.
“We continue to monitor the situation closely. The safety of our guests and crew is our highest priority, and we will keep customers updated as new information becomes available,” Virgin said in a statement.
Eruptions from Mount Rinjani, situated on the nearby island of Lombok, prompted authorities to close Bali Airport to all flights on Tuesday night.
Flights to Bali were last disrupted in July and August, when the ash cloud from the Mount Raung volcano resulted in days of cancelled flights and left thousands of passengers stranded.
