Jetstar will be the second Boeing 787 operator to Honolulu when it deploys the Dreamliner to the tourist hotspot from February 2015.
The Qantas-owned low-cost carrier will switch the aircraft used on its six times a week Sydney-Honolulu service from an Airbus A330-200 to the 787-8.
The first flight with the 787-8 will be on February 19 2015, Jetstar said in a statement on Friday.
It will be the Jetstar’s 10th route using the 787, as the airline transitions its widebody fleet to the 787 and returns A330s back to Qantas mainline.
Jetstar will be the second airline to schedule 787 operations to Hawaii, with global distribution systems showing Japan Airlines currently uses the 787-8 on its Tokyo Narita to Honolulu service.
Jetstar currently has seven 787s in its fleet, which are used to Bali, Phuket, Tokto Narita, Osaka and Bangkok from Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Cairns.
“We expect to have operated more than 2,000 revenue flights by the end of the Christmas/New Year holiday peak as this aircraft becomes the mainstay of our long haul fleet,” Jetstar Australia and New Zealand chief executive David Hall said in a statement.
“As we move to an all 787 fleet the cost efficiencies of the aircraft will be fully realised positioning our long haul low fares network for the future and enabling the return of A330s to Qantas.”
