Jetstar has taken delivery of its seventh Boeing 787, with the arrival of VH-VKG in Cairns on Tuesday afternoon. Operating as JQ7992, the aircraft departed Paine Field at 10:26am on Monday, touching down in Cairns 13 hours and 47 minutes later at 5:13pm on Tuesday.

VKG’s arrival comes barely a week after the airline’s sixth 787, VH-VKH, was delivered to Cairns on August 18. (VKH entered revenue service on August 23 when it operated JQ35 Melbourne-Denpasar.)

All 12 787-8s on order for Jetstar are expected to be in service by the end of 2015.

I once read that the engine covers had to stay white for design reasons, yet I’ve just seen pictures of BA’s 787’s with blue engine covers so what’s the reason that JQ haven’t painted theirs silver?

NJP they are actually different engines. BA use RR and jetstar use GE. So maybe it’s only for the GE engine.

The whole plane is in the wrong colours!

    says:

The cowls are white due to drag reduction reasons. If they are painted any other colour then Boeing cannot guarantee fuel burn figures. If an airline decides to paint them must accept possible higher fuel burn rates and a resulting lower performance figures. BA accepted the possible reduction in fuel efficiency.

Good to see it home – I last saw it sitting on the tarmac at Everett field in Seattle, awaiting its final testing.
