Jetstar has confirmed it is axing flights between Brisbane and Hamilton Island from October 20.
“Unfortunately, the route (which is one of the shortest on our network) has dropped in performance during the past 12 months,” a Jetstar spokesperson confirmed in a June 20 statement.

It is better to fly into Proserpine Airport anyway!

This is now the second leisure route they have dropped due ‘poor performance’. Maybe if they were flying less routes with mainline which are primarily non-leisure markets?

oh no!!! anyone tried to link up Proserpine to Airlie to Hamilton Is? Bus limited service, then find suitable ferry service which runs very limited schedule and costs heaps each way,,,, if and when they run very dependent on weather, keeps Hamilton Is exclusive for the wealthy!!. Go Virgin!! no competition now, watch for them to up the prices!!

This is a major problem for Qantas, what are Jetstar doing pulling out of the type of routes they were set up to serve, and now operating 12 flights a day from Melbourne Tullamarine to Sydney!
Reminds one of what happened with GO and British Airways!!

It is because the original arrangement was using an agreed deal between Qantas and HTI management which JQ inherited when the whole operation was handed to JQ and now it’s up for renewal and they don’t like the new conditions.
It far from the shortest and this just a reason spun to the media and markets because they’ll print anything without analysing it!
The issue now for Qantas Group customers is fly BNE CNS and then back via Dash 8 to get there!

Saying it is one of the shortest routes shows how out of touch the pr department is with the operationd dept. Gives me reason to doubt the airline is well run.
