The Qantas Group recorded a 6.7 per cent increase in passenger numbers during October, although yields remain low.
The increase in passenger numbers came from Jetstar, which recorded increases of 3.6 per cent in domestic operations and 115.8 per cent for international operations. Qantas’s domestic services saw passenger numbers fall by 0.9 per cent, while international passenger numbers decreased by 20.9 per cent. QantasLink also recorded a decrease of 1.9 per cent.
Despite the fall in passenger numbers, load factors across most operations increased as capacity growth was restrained or cut compared to the same time last year. Qantas’s international flights saw a 5.4 percentage point increase to 84.6 per cent, while domestic loads increased by 2.7 points to 85 per cent. Jetstar’s domestic loads increased by 1.9 points to 85.9 per cent, with international services registering an increase of two points to 76.6 per cent. QantasLink’s loads fell for the month, down 1.8 percentage points to 72.1 per cent.
Qantas said its domestic yield across all brands for the financial year to date was 10.2 per cent lower than the previous year, while international yields are 24.2 per cent lower.
