A new survey of aviation professionals has cited the economy as the most important voting consideration in the lead up to next month’s federal election.
It comes on the day it was revealed annual inflation hit a 20-year high of 5.1 per cent – a hugely damaging development for the sector given the disposable nature of flights and holidays.
The new Momentum Intelligence survey of 503 aviators showed 70 per cent considered the state of the nation’s finances the most important factor to influence their X on polling day, followed closely by defence, tax, climate and energy.
The Industry Insight Report also showed 50 per cent intend to vote for the Coalition and 56 per cent rate Scott Morrison as their preferred PM. Both of these show a small but significant increase from the last survey of aviators, conducted earlier this year.
It formed part of a larger report that investigated the aviation industry along with the mortgage lending, real estate, wealth management, accounting services and legal services sectors.
Overall, 2,500 industry professionals took part, with 42 per cent of participants unsure as to how Labor’s budget reply would support their sector.
Despite these results, a shining light for the opposition is industry’s backing of their childcare policy which received overwhelming support across all sectors, highlighting Labor’s plan to make childcare cheaper and more accessible resonates strongly with professionals in the sectors.
Director Michael Johnson said Momentum Intelligence has been well placed to leverage insights from across seven key sectors to highlight to decision-makers the response to Budget 2022.
“We can see from these results that the sectors surveyed are paying very close attention to the policy platforms of both parties and how those policies will affect their industry going forward,” said Johnson.
“Many of these professionals surveyed own and operate small businesses that are looking to understand how their vote may impact their business.
“Both the federal government and the Treasurer made it very clear that they want to see business-led growth play a central role in driving Australia’s economic recovery and it appears Labor’s Budget Reply has not made as much of a clear impression on this point according to these results.”
Momentum Intelligence’s Industry Insight Report was compiled to highlight and amplify the voices of the sectors in which it operates.
Momentum Intelligence has been able to harness the views of many of the professionals who operate in the sectors that will have a key part in driving that economic recovery through this poll.
The report is the first of its kind in Australia to evaluate the attitudes, voting preferences and considerations of Australian Industry to inform and shape policy decisions.
