Air bp’s award-winning safe2go fuel data platform expands its reach.
Ever since it began refuelling operations in Australia in 1926, Air bp has gone from strength to strength in the country. It has invested in the growth of its Australian network, which currently covers more than 75 locations at 67 airports. With a focus on digital services, the fuel provider also continues to demonstrate how it is enhancing fuelling operations as it proceeds with deploying its safe2go fuel data platform at locations throughout the region.
Having introduced Air bp’s safe2go fuel data platform (previously called Airfield Automation) at Moorabbin Airport in 2019, the end of 2022 saw the aviation fuel provider named ‘Safety Innovator of the Year’ at the inaugural Australian Aviation Awards for its innovative cloud-based technology.
Developed by Air bp and benefitting from the fuel provider’s expertise and understanding of the needs of operators and their customers, the safe2go fuel data platform consists of several digital solutions that provide efficiencies to the refuelling process. These include the safe2go fuelling app, a bp patented misfuel prevention technology to help significantly reduce the risk of into-plane misfuelling.
The innovative safe2go fuelling app works via a handheld device in fuelling vehicles which consolidates data on airport fuelling operations and verifies fuelling requirements. Customer details are then confirmed with an electronic signature from the pilot or airline representative. Aside from the enhanced safety barrier, operators benefit from faster, more comprehensive and more accurate fuelling as well as data delivery.
With additional services recently added to the cloud-based platform, airlines and operators now benefit from upgrades, including a real-time, two-way connection between the flight crew and fuel operator during the aircraft turnaround at the airfield. Called safe2go+, this solution provides instant visibility and more efficient refuelling operations from the receipt of the preliminary order through to a revised final order and concluding with an electronic ticket sign-off. It also reduces refuelling time significantly and provides efficiencies at the back office.
By providing an engineering barrier to actively help prevent misfuelling, the safe2go fuel data platform and safe2go fuelling app enhances efficiency and reliability in refuelling operations. With general aviation particularly vulnerable to the risk of misfuelling, Air bp is proud to have protected more than 660,000 overwing fuellings globally with its safe2go misfuel prevention app and reached a milestone of 4 million fuellings overall with safe2go. In Australia alone, more than 720,000 fuellings have been processed to date using Air bp’s safe2go fuel data platform of which over 360,000 overwing fuellings have been protected with patented misfuelling technology.
The end of 2022 saw Air bp mark another milestone for its innovative technology as it began marketing the safe2gofuel data platform to fuel operators at non-Air bp operated locations. The fuel provider is now looking forward to progressing its expansion of the platform with new customers across the globe, including in Australia and the wider Asia Pacific region.
