The nominees for the first-ever Australian Aviation Awards have been announced, with more than 100 finalists across 20 categories.
Shortlisted organisations include innovators such as drone delivery pioneers Swoop Aero, air taxi infrastructure experts Skyportz and light show organisers Mirragin – alongside traditional heavy hitters such as Rex, Dnata and Kestrel Aviation.
Individuals to get the nod include representatives from Qantas, Airbus, Sikorsky, Babcock and CareFlight.

Australian Aviation marked a momentous milestone in its history by launching its first-ever Australian Aviation Awards program in March this year.
It invited the sector to celebrate its achievements as it wakes from its COVID hibernation and sees significant demand with the reopening of international and interstate borders.
Run with the support of principal partner the University of New South Wales, the awards include categories for both individuals and companies, with the program culminating in a black-tie gala ceremony in Sydney on Thursday 1 September 2022.
Australian Aviation is proud to reveal that a total of 118 finalists have qualified for the 2022 awards across 20 categories.
The Australian Aviation Awards were open to executives, aviators, trainers, technologists, technicians, crew, students, academics, and large and small businesses.
Individual categories included those for engineering professionals, female aviation leaders, aviation safety professionals, and rising stars, while group categories spanned airlines, airports, defence support businesses, industry associations, rotary businesses, safety innovators, and training and mentorship programs.
The awards are peer-reviewed and judged by a well-regarded and trusted panel.
Commenting on the finalists, Australian Aviation’s Adam Thorn said the brand was impressed with the calibre of the entries.
“Aviation has endured the most difficult period in its history,” said Thorn. “It’s a testament to all of our nominees that they were able to achieve such exceptional results during this very challenging period. As we move into a post-COVID world, those acknowledged at our inaugural awards are sure to thrive.”
The gala awards ceremony is set to take place in person on Thursday, 1 September 2022 at The Star, Sydney, and will provide an opportunity for aviation professionals to network with their peers and revel in their successes.
