Register Review #392 | Qantas adds its A220s
Qantas adds its A220s and Alliance grows its E-190 fleet
Take it as a sign of the times, it has certainly been a busy quarter in Australia’s aircraft scene with just under 500 aircraft swapping hands or being added to the CASA register between November 2023 and January 2024. Attrition this quarter was lower than what we have come to expect, with just 42 deletions from the register, so it seems the blue skies of Down Under are calling for many!
As always, let’s start by delving into the big players. Virgin Australia welcomed yet another Boeing 737 MAX jet, VH-8ID, amid (yet another) international investigation into the plane due to inexcusable safety issues. Before this latest MAX PR nightmare, Virgin publicly committed to increase its total MAX 8 order by a further eight planes – meaning the total number of VA MAX jets – across the MAX 8 and MAX 10 variants – we can eventually expect is now quickly approaching 40. Meanwhile, regional-come-domestic-challenger Rex added its 10th Boeing 737 NG to the CASA register.
