Issue 384: Drone Light Shows & Southern Cross
In January, drone light shows arrived in Australia, when Sydney put on the biggest display in the southern hemisphere. Just weeks later, Melbourne followed with its own performance. The detail that caught my eye is that rival producers created both displays. Sydney, by world number one Intel. Melbourne by world number two, Celestial. Of course, Celestial will tell you what they lack in numbers (their display had 150 fewer drones) they more than make up for in creativity, with a whole different approach to storytelling. Sound familiar? Check out my feature as I shamelessly geek out talking to the major players.
Elsewhere in the issue, the great Eric Allen tucks into his next big project – as he begins telling the history of the de Havilland DH.86 in Australian operations. It’s a tale that’s got the lot, as his apt headline puts it: Investigations into an enigma. Eric’s knowledge of aviation is mind-boggling, and today’s entry is one of three. When it’s all done, I’m hoping we can release this as a stand-alone digital edition for you all.
